Maddrasah Financing a Mammoth confront for Government

A meeting held in Islamabad to check measures to execute National Action plan against terrorism. The issue of monitoring financial sources of maddrasah was confronted and it was stressed to check the funding of seminaries that is probably directed by conventional means.

In the meeting it was conversed about finding compatible means to monitor foreign finding for maddrasah that is perhaps comes from Middle Eastern countries. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The first way was discussed regarding to foreign financiers, it was needed to take into confidence the main financiers i.e. UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran. It was planned to aware these countries about the importance and need of National Action Plan and demonstrate how unimpeded financing assists terrorism activities. According to Pakistani security agencies these countries are the primary financiers and their unregulated funding is being used in terrorism activities. The meeting was determined to meet with ambassadors of these countries and get their contributions to block unfettered transfer of money to those maddrasahas which have links with terrorist groups.

Another suggestion was regarding to checking of funding make mandatory on annual audit and government agencies would be take charge of it. It was recommended that maddrasah owners would be responsible to declare all funding sources and they must realize the importance and take the decision in broad view.

To educate the public against terrorism starting media campaign was also took in account, the focus of media campaign is to aware public about donating their money to only those seminaries who have no concern with terrorist groups and had a good history.

When media asked to ITM General Secretary Mufti Muneeb Ur Rehman about the government decision he quipped and said,”How a government who is existing on foreign funding can check others doing the same, but w aren’t receiving funding directly from any foreign country and we’ve regular audits by licensed firms”.
