President rejects mercy plea of 17 deaths row criminals

President Mamnoon Husain rejected mercy appeals of 17 prisoners convicted for death penalty on Thursday, after the removal of moratorium on death penalty by Government.

According to resources, out of 17 rejected appeals by President ten convicted terrorists belong to Punjab, six belongs to Sindh and one from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All will be hanged as soon as possible. Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan has warned government; if any of their convicted is executed then it can cause to prompt a bloody war.

After the brutal attack on Army Public School, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif abolished the moratorium on death penalty in terrorism related cases on Wednesday. The decision was taken after the continuous complaints from law and enforcement agencies for hundreds of terrorist not being executed.

“I want to reinstate death penalty to ensure the better crack down on militants and criminals”, said Prime Minster.

Pakistan’s previous government imposed moratorium on capital punishment in 2008 under international pressure. Government wanted to hang four convicted prisoners in August last year, but court ordered temporary delays after the objections from the co chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party Asif Ali Zardari.

The rejected appeals were pending in president house since 2012, and today President has rejected these mercy appeals by using his powers. The execution orders have passed to many prisons, so the execution process would take minimum time.

Pakistani nation and law and enforcement agencies has appreciated this decision and has hoped this act would decrease the terrorist activates in Pakistan.
