The attackers were suddenly appeared on four motorbikes and cars in Liberty Chock Lahore and started beating the participants and torn apart the posters of former Governor. They not only tortured the media reporters but also did misbehave with the women present at the spot.
A first investigation report has been lodged against Sunni Tehreek’s workers in Gulburg Police station. The members of civil society, participants and media have condemned the incident and all participants again lit the vigils. Salman Taseer was Punjab’s former Governor and assassinated by his own security guard Mumtaz Qadri on January 4, 2011.
Salman Taseer was present in Kohsar Market Islamabad when his guard shot him and he died at the spot. In the same year of October anti terrorism court convicted Mumtaz Qadri for death penalty. Many Pakistanis including lawyers have soft corner for him because they think Slaman Taseer’s demand for reformation in Pakistan blasphemy law was not justifiable. Many lawyers welcomed him in court with rose petals and slogans in his respect. The majority of Pakistan is against his death penalty and takes him as a hero.
The death anniversary has been organized by civil society members for last four years, but it’s the incident of attack. The attackers also succeeded in run away before the arrival of Police. While the DCO captain Muhammad Usman has assured that the culprits would be soon behind the bars.
